Japanese through Anime - Majime

Majime
(abv.まじ -Maji)

Usage:
This is said often when a girl hears something she’s never heard before and can’t believe. Like when she hears that her boyfriend can turn into a magical fairy she’ll reply, “eh, Maji de?” (Eh, seriously?)

It can also be said from someone when they’re in a battle. If their opponent isn’t using full power they will sometimes say: “Majime ni nare” (Become Serious!)

Defintion:
1) diligent; serious; honest; sober; grave; earnest; steady
2) Seriously?

Examples:
"oi, oi, sensei" "e?... aaaa" "maji daijoubu? kyuukou ni shitara?"
"...Hey...Hey, teacher!" "ugh owww" "Are you seriously OK? Shouldn't you cancel the lesson?"

majime ni toranaide honno joudan da yo.
Don't take me seriously. I'm only joking.

mou sukoshi monogoto ni taishite majime ni nare.
Take things a little more seriously.

My personality is not at all serious! (This is a male because of “boku” )
